Opening Doors Through Our Bursary Programme
Tharisa's Bursary Programme provides students with the opportunity to further their studies in their chosen career paths.
In 2023, we awarded eleven bursaries to students from surrounding communities, and are proud to share that:
- Three bursary holders successfully completed their studies and have been offered experiential training at Tharisa Minerals.
- Six students are currently benefiting from the programme.
Meet Lesego Magoane: A Tharisa Bursary Recipient and Future Geologist in the Making
For Lesego Magoane, geology is more than just a field of study - it's a lifelong passion that began in the classrooms of Rustenburg. Always a top-performing student, Lesego’s interest in the natural world was sparked by the majestic mountains that framed her hometown.
She often wondered about their composition and the hidden treasures beneath their surface. Her curiosity deepened when she learned that the Pilanesberg mountain contained rich deposits of platinum, a resource that plays a critical role in South Africa's mining industry. From that moment, she knew she wanted to be part of the industry that unlocks the earth’s potential.
Lesego's journey took a significant step forward when a friend shared a newspaper advert about the Tharisa Bursary Programme. Realising that this was her chance to turn her passion into a career, she applied and was fortunate to be selected. Today, Lesego is studying geology, equipping herself with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute to South Africa's mining sector.
Beyond financial relief, the Tharisa Bursary has given Lesego the confidence and motivation to pursue excellence in her studies. Lesego acknowledges that without this opportunity, her path could have been much more difficult. She hopes to inspire other young students to seek out opportunities, chase their dreams, and take bold steps towards their future.
